The perfect modern day dive watch. That was our goal when we began concepting the solar dive watch project over 2 years ago. True to our nature of pushing the boundaries of traditional watch design, Diver 1T Solar takes a unique perspective. With a combination of premium materials, high-end specs and key diving features, for an affordable price, our first solar diver is here.
Today’s watch market demands exclusiveness and personality, not the expected “here’s our take on the Submariner” approach. With Diver 1T Solar, we have created a distinct take on modern dive watches, that is aligned with our quest to change the definition of what it means to be an everyday watch.
As with everything that we do at MINUS-8, we were not in a rush to complete this watch. Contrary to what we see take place in the market (fast-to-market, minor iteration after minor iteration), we took our time and designed everything from the ground-up. Since it is our first solar movement, we wanted to build something truly special and we spent extra time getting the design and performance just right. Our latest addition to the dive lineup has been in development for more than 2 years and we are proud to finally bring it to the world.
Diver 1T Solar is crafted using titanium. We love this material for its toughness and incredible corrosion resistance. In our minds, the discussion for the best dive watch material starts and ends with titanium, so we use the same ultra-strong, PVD coated titanium for the Diver 1T Solar case and bracelet as we do for our best-selling Diver 2.0. However, in this model, we added a stainless steel bracelet clasp, to improve the security and closing mechanism, which is something customers have been asking for.
We’re not going to lie, we were a little hesitant to build a watch with a solar movement, since we love automatics so much, but the user experience of solar movements is pretty awesome. Not only do they keep super accurate time, but they also have a pretty much endless power reserve. After much consideration, we landed on the Japan-made, Seiko Epson AS-01 solar movement, which delivers a power reserve of up to 4 months. This movement provides incredible value to the wearer, across the board. You can wear it anywhere, explore everything and never worry about the accuracy and reliability of your timepiece.
Truly built for the water, Diver 1T Solar is crafted with all the water-first specs and features that you’d expect. A screw-down crown keeps the internal components safe and a unidirectional rotating dive timing bezel is built to make sure you can accurately calculate time while in the water. At 20ATM / 200M water-resistance, the Diver 1T Solar is ready for a deep dive or just a quick swim in the ocean or pool, anytime.
Legibility in and out of the water is key for any real dive watch, which is why we enclosed the dial behind a custom-built sapphire crystal with a dual-layer anti-reflective coating on the inside of the glass. The best-performing lume in the market, Super-LumiNova, covers the hour markings on the dial and fills the markings on the bezel of Diver 1T Solar, for visibility at all times.
